Hunters Estate Agent York and District Indoor Cricket League
The League's Presentation Evening held at York Brewery was well attended by players and supports who saw trophies handed to the winning team and individual awards for batting and bowling and all rounders. The presentations were
made by John Waterhouse, Sarah Fuller and Vanessa Render of the league's sponsors, Hunters the Estate Agent.
With all teams being asked to vote on a first second and third basis, Rowntrees A team player Paul Homer received the most votes gaining a total of 32 points to win the First Division Bowling award. His seasonal bag of 15 wickets has only been exceeded once in the history of the League whilst his runs per over rate of 5.97 was the best of the season. Horner's bowling average was 13.73 and, having also made 146 runs and taken seven catches he also figured in the divisional A1-rounder category where he came second.
The winner of this award was Acomb's Richard Sykes who, throughout the season, proved to be a real all-rounder as, in most games he bowled his three overs and then took over wicketkeeping duties.
Sykes made 289 runs, claimed seven wickets and broke the fielding record for the league when he took 12 catches and claimed one stumping for a total of 13 thus breaking the previous record of 11 which was jointly held by keepers Brian Shirley and Bill Carter who set their marks in 1985-87.
Sheriff Hutton Bridge's Steve Crowder was the runaway winner of
the first division Batting Award when his 300 runs at an average of 60.00 earned him twice as many votes as his brother Peter who was runnerup.
Stillington's John Carr took two awards when he won both the Second Division Bowling Award and the Allrounder Award. He claimed 13
wickets at 18.62 with a run rate of 7. 15 in the bowling category whilst his 234 runs and 4 catches enabled him to add his second award. He just pipped Thirsk's Darren Wyrill who may feel a little unlucky as, in addition to making 292 runs he also created three league records by making the fastest ever 25 (off three legitimate balls), the fastest ever 50 (off 12 balls) and the highest number of catches (12) in division two.
Consolation for the Wyrill family came however when Des Wyrill was awarded the Second Division Batting Award for his 342 runs at an average of 68.40. This was Des's fifth Batting Award in the 16 year history of the Indoor league.
The League Championship was won by Acomb for the sixth time in eight years.
