A Darlington school is hoping to expand.
The plans for Holy Family RC Primary School include facilities to make life easier for disabled people, a new library and office. An application for planning permission has been submitted to Darlington Borough Council by the Hexham and Newcastle Diocesan Trustees.
MOTORWAY WORK: Roadworks over the A1(M) near Darlington start on Monday and are expected to be completed by the end of July. Most of the work will take place on the Burtree Lane bridge, near Darlington, and close to junction 58 of the motorway. Traffic signals will be in operation on Burtree Lane with a 40mph speed limit, but the effect on motorway users will be minimal.
DEMOLITION PLAN: Seven four-bedroom houses and four one-bedroom flats are to be demolished by Darlington Borough Council because they have been vandalised and are unpopular with tenants. There were also concerns that the properties in Jedburgh Drive and Minors Crescent had attracted nuisance tenants. The work will cost £54,5000.
CHARITY TRIP: A trip to Belgium has been organised to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The two-day trip to Bruges from June 7 to 9, costs £135, which includes return travel and accommodation. It will leave leave Barnard Castle at 9am on June 7. All proceeds will go to the Teesdale committee of Cancer Research UK. GYM BID: Jeremy Grant, who owns Grant's Gym, off Maude Street, St Helen Auckland, has applied to Darlington Borough Council for permission to turn the Edmunds Walker car parts distributor warehouse, in Brunswick Street, Darlington, into a gym.
ANNUAL MEETING: The Firthmoor Community Association will hold its annual meeting on May 21, at 6.30pm, in Firthmoor Community Centre.
