YOUNGSTERS took part in a sponsored sit at a football stadium to raise money for charity yesterday.

St Aidan's School's year ten XL Club undertook the challenge at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, in aid of the SAFC Foundation, Sunderland football club's registered charity.

They managed to sit on about 25,000 of the stadium's seats - only 1,000 short of their target - as part of their community project for the Asdan Youth Achievement Award.

Helen Addy, of Education Business Connections, which helped organise the event, said: "It went very well.

"Quite a few of the boys are Sunderland supporters, so they thought it would be a good idea to do something at the stadium."
