A COMMUNITY is gearing up for a grand celebration to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Residents of Sherburn Hill, near Durham City, will hold a jubilee fair in Sherburn Hill Community Centre and the park opposite on Saturday, June 1.
It is being supported by the Mosaic Fund and a host of local businesses, which have donated tombola and raffle prizes.
Among its main attractions will be fairground rides, a brass band, camel races, a tin can alley, stocks, stalls, and a fire engine.
To commemorate the jubilee, every primary school child will be presented with a special medal.
Fair organiser Billy Raine said he hoped it would be a huge success.
He said: "We are hoping for a big turnout. We have put flyers in the village and in the surrounding villages.
"Sherburn Hill is a very quiet village and we wanted to give people something to do.
"I think there's a lot of support in the area for the Royal family, especially since the Queen Mother's death."
The fair will run from 11am to 3pm, although it may be extended according to demand.
