POLICE are urging motorists to be on their guard after a series of thefts from cars in Darlington.
Officers are advising car owners not to leave any valuable items unattended, and have asked people who may have seen any car crime to contact them immediately.
Thefts from cars have been reported across the town.
One victim had her handbag stolen on Thursday while she left her car unattended in Eastbourne Road for a few minutes.
Detective Sergeant Alec Francis, of Darlington CID, said: "I don't want people to think there has been a spate of thefts from motor vehicles, and we are not unduly worried about the number of incidents, but as always we would urge people to be extra vigilant.
"There seem to be a number of opportunistic crimes taking place in the town, which can be avoided by people ensuring that they don't leave any of their valuables unattended while they are away from their car.
"Anyone who has seen anything suspicious should contact the police straight away."
Anyone with any information regarding car crime can contact police, on (01325) 467681.
