Police are investigating the suspicious death of a young woman in Sunderland early this morning.
A police spokesman said the detectives found the woman in Palgrove Road, Pennywell, Sunderland, after being called to a disturbance there at 3am.
The woman, who is in her twenties, has not been named.
An incident room has been set up at Sunderland and police were this morning carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.
Home Office pathologist Dr James Sunter will be holding a post mortem examination today.
Detective Superintendent Ian Sharp: "At the moment we are treating this death as suspicious pending the outcome of the post mortem.
"We are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area and are trying to establish exactly what happened."
A man is helping police with their inquiries.
