ACTORS broke from rehearsals yesterday to launch a military-style fundraising effort for charity.

Spennymoor Operatic Society's cast will take to the stage at Spennymoor Town Hall this week with Irving Berlin's musical Annie Get Your Gun.

Beverley Fishburn and Malcolm Cooper, who play Annie Oakley and trickshot marksman Frank Butler in the show, are supporting the Marie Curie Cancer Care event, Carry on Soldier, being held at Catterick Garrison on Saturday, July 13.

A rifle range is one of the challenges on the day. There will also be a 25ft climbing wall to negotiate, drill exercises, an assault course and training from a small arms unit.

Contact Carol Oliver on 0191-382 3311 to register a team of four to take part.

The musical, being produced by Eric Hickson and directed by Bob Howe, will open tomorrow and runs until Saturday, at 7pm.

Tickets for the show can be obtained from John Welsh Jewellers, in Spennymoor High Street, or from (01388) 420057.
