HUMANISTS will thrash out the issues of the day at a conference being held at Durham Castle.

The day-long event will feature a keynote address by Suzanne Uniacke, a member of the British Humanist Association's (BHA) philosophy group, challenging humanistic values.

Humanists are non-religious but dedicated to good works towards their fellow man.

Other speakers include Hanne Stinson, the BHA's new executive director, who will discuss developments for the association, and Jack Jeffery, who chairs the World Humanity Action Trust.

Workshops and panel discussions will also be held.

Professor Colin Gallagher, chairman of the North East Humanists, will chair Saturday's conference, which will run from 10am to 4.30pm, in the castle's Senate Suite.

Conference fees are £10, including tea and coffee, with further details available from regional secretary Barrie Berkley on (01434) 632936.
