apprentices have raised more than £900 for charity.

The TTE Apprentice Charity Walk raised the money for the Upsall Hall rural centre for people with learning difficulties, near Guisborough.

Because of the foot-and- mouth crisis, TTE's traditional White Rose Walk had to be replaced with a 12km trek from South Gare to Saltburn, and almost 90 walkers took part.

Trainee Peter McDonough, who raised the most sponsorship, presented deputy manager Ray Oliver with a power-saw for the centre's forge, and wood-finishing equipment.

Organiser Mike Sidgwick said: "Rather than abandon the walk, it was reorganised and once again gives me the chance to commend the tremendous effort and commitment of the trainees to their chosen charity."

Alan Old, principal of Redcar and Cleveland College, was guest speaker at the ceremony. He said: "This TTE walk is a great tradition for the training centre, which has donated more than £21,000 to a number of good causes since 1992.
