PLANS to boost tourism in Nidderdale have received a £50,000 grant as part of a "welcome back" to the countryside following the foot-and-mouth crisis.
The cash has come from the Government funding agency, Yorkshire Forward.
Nidderdale is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which has Pateley Bridge as its focal point but stretches to Masham, near Ripon, and south to the northern boundary of Leeds.
Tourism chiefs are planning a series of promotional events to encourage more overnight stays. Local businesses will support the project.
As a spin-off from September's Nidderdale Show, an event will also aim to tempt tourists to stay longer in the area.
Plans are being prepared for visitor tours of Nidderdale in an effort to encourage tourists to do more exploring.
Among other plans being put together are a market towns initiative, which would include a move to breathe fresh life into Masham.
