WHEN art graduate Bill Harris decided he needed a larger canvas for his work he turned the whole wall of a gallery into a painting.
His work - Beyond the Mirage - can be seen along with the paintings by his fellow University of Sunderland fine art MA graduates, at the Junctions exhibition at the university's Vardy Gallery, Ashburne House.
Mr Harris, 59, a former electrician from Peterlee, said: "I'm not really interested in creating paintings to hang on a wall, they should be the wall.
"I like the idea of people getting physically involved in my work.
"It's based on landscape painting, only it's a landscape you can stand in front of and feel you're a part of."
The exhibition looks at English landscapes and architecture using abstract art and stage sets.
As well as Mr Harris's work, the exhibition features paintings by Rhonda Fenwick, Katherine May, Liz Coates and Dave Stevens. The artists put together the exhibition to celebrate their time at Sunderland.
The exhibition runs until Friday, May 10, and is open from 10am until 5pm Mondays to Fridays.
