THE smallest library in Redcar and Cleveland reopened yesterday following a major revamp.
Dormanstown Library has been expanded from a former shop in Farndale Square to occupy the adjoining vacant shop, increasing its size by 50 per cent.
It means the Laburnum Road Library, in Redcar, takes over the smallest library title.
The library has also undergone a £105,000 scheme to equip it as a UKOnline Centre with a computer suite and a range of courses and introductory sessions by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's Adult Education Service.
Redcar and Cleveland Mayor Vilma Collins, who is a Dormanstown ward councillor, was on hand to reopen the library and award prizes to local schoolchildren who had designed posters to advertise the library's reopening.
"It will be a great asset for the residents and especially the children. The library's always been held close to the hearts of the community and I'm thrilled with the new investment," she said.
The poster competition winners were six-year-old Cameron Pinnegar and nine-year-old Michael Rawlinson, from Dormanstown Primary School, and Michael Keane,12, from West Redcar Community School.
Five-year-old Chloe Laity, from Dormanstown Primary School, presented Coun Collins with a bouquet.
