Detectives investigating the murder of a father of seven have been given a 36-hour extension to continue questioning three men in connection with the incident.
Police were called to a disturbance in Raleigh Road, Norton, Teesside, at 10pm on Sunday, where they found Mark Anthony Richardson unconscious.
The 39-year-old had been stabbed. He was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees but died soon afterwards.
Three men, a 42-year-old, who suffered facial injuries during the disturbance and a 41-year-old and 33-year-old are helping police with their inquiries at Stockton Police Station.
Detective Inspector Karnail Dulku, who is leading the inquiry, said police were not yet clear why the incident took place or why Mr Richardson died.
Yesterday he made a fresh appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have any information to come forward.
He said: "We need more information and are appealing for anyone who was in the Raleigh Road and Drake Road area between 9pm and 10.30pm to get in touch."
A confidential phone line has been set up on (01642) 302390.
