AN information day is being held to provide support and advice for carers looking after people with learning disabilities.
The event, organised by Teesdale Carers Centre and the Wear Valley Carers Initiative, will also be an opportunity to establish a carers' support group for those caring for people with learning disabilities.
Speakers from social services and Mencap will be talking at the event about the Government's White Paper on learning disabilities and support housing, and answer questions from carers.
There will also be workshops run by representatives from the NHS and County Durham Social Services on Alzheimer's disease and dementia in adults with learning disabilities.
Aileen Scott, carer support and information worker for Teesdale Carers Centre, said: "The aim of the day is to raise awareness, provide information and support and to establish a carers group for those looking after people with a learning disability."
Free transport and care relief will be provided for anyone attending the event, which will be held at the Optimum Centre, Bishop Auckland, on May 9, from 10am to 2.30pm.
