AFTERNOON TEA: The congregation of Birtley Meth-odist Church will hold an afternoon tea from 3.30pm to 5pm on Sunday, to say fare-well to their minister, the Reverend Linda Williams, who is to take up a new appointment in Wales.
CLUB MEETING: The annual meeting of Sacriston and District Everyman's Club will start at 7.30pm next Tuesday, in the lounge of St John's Court.
PLANT SALE: Chester-le-Street Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society will hold a plant sale in Dobbies Garden Centre from 10.30am on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5.
ALL THAT JAZZ: Savoy Jazz will entertain members of Jazz in Birtley from 8pm to 11pm on Thursday, May 2, at Birtley St Joseph's CMS Club and Parish Centre. Tickets cost £2.
NETWORK NIGHT: Janet Burdon, who worked as a mission partner in Tonga, will be the guest speaker at the pie and peas supper of Birtley Network at 7.30pm on Monday, at Birtley Methodist Church. Tickets cost £2.50.
BOXING FESTIVAL: A Gala Boxing Dinner will be held by Birtley Boxing Club on Friday, May 3, in the Lancastrian Suite of the Federation Brewery. Tickets for the black tie event are £25, and are available by calling 0191-492 3723.
ACE SERVE: The Action Team for Jobs secured funding that enabled David Ester, 17, of Perkinsville, to gain coaching qualifications and become a coach at the East Cornwall Tennis Centre.

TOWN MISSION: Pastor Davy Farcus will accompany members of the Chester-le-Street Evangelical Church on a town mission on Friday.
PIE AND PEAS: Bethel United Reformed Church, Low Chare, is hosting a pie and peas supper with raffle in aid of Cancer Research UK from noon until 1pm on Friday, May 3. Tickets are £2.50.
