Play Tennis: Yarm tennis club is holding a free Play Tennis day on Sunday, when everyone is invited to turn up to try the sport.

There will be sessions for those aged 12 and under from 10am to 11.30am, for 13 to 17-year-olds from 11.30 to 1pm and for adults from 2pm to 4pm.

The club, in Leven Road, Yarm, has excellent facilities with new floodlights, nine all-weather courts, club nights for adult members at all levels, supervised junior nights and senior and junior coaching.

Fair time: Yarm Preparatory School is holding a spring fair with a red, white and blue theme and an open morning, from 10am to noon on Saturday.

Attractions include a balloon race, refreshments, face-painting, a tombola, magician and tuck shop. There will also be stalls including cakes and plants, and games devised and run by the top year pupils.

Admission will be 50p and there will be a prize for the holder of the lucky programme. Car parking is available at the Friarage.

French class: There are still some vacancies in the French adult education class held in Yarm Methodist Church. For details, call (01642) 700223. The classes are held from 7pm to 9pm.

Cabaret night: Bede House and the Yarm School Association present Cabaret Night on Wednesday, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the school office, on (01642) 786023, and cost £5 for adults, with concessions at £3. The event is open to adults and students in the sixth form.

A buffet and soft drinks will be provided. Adults may bring their own wine or beer.
