THE traditional fun of the fair is coming to Northallerton again next week, with thousands of people expected to flock to the town.

Officials from Hambleton District Council are putting the finishing touches to preparations for the annual May Fair.

The town's High Street will be closed off and packed with rides and side shows for five days and it is hoped that a park and ride system will be in place for Saturday shoppers and fair users.

Part of the northern end of the High Street is closed at certain times, with alternative routes posted for drivers.

Long-stay parking in the Applegarth car park will be reduced to just two rows on the western edge of the site, with disabled parking relocated to south High Street. Other long-stay car parking will be available in the community centre and Crosby Road car parks.

Bus stops and taxi ranks from the town hall end of the High Street will be moved to Zetland Street for northbound services and outside the library for southbound services.

Alternative routes for the northern end of the High Street will be in operation from 5pm next Wednesday
