TWO young riders from the region were part of the Great Britain team which won the gold medal at an international show jumping competition in South Africa.
James Reveley, from Lingdale, and David Harland, from Hutton Mulgrave, joined Jodie Ward and Katie Haines to win the International Children and Junior Classique at Brentwood Park, near Johannesburg.
The team event produced a cliffhanger of a finish, with David having to jump clear in the second round to win the gold after Katie had three time faults.
James had a good show with a win and a second place to share the Victor Ludorum leading rider award with David in the CB classes. David had achieved a second, two thirds and a fourth with Amazone and Sounds of A Melody.
Meanwhile, Loftus rider Daniel Neilson had an excellent Pony of the Year Show at Towerlands, Essex.
Riding Sligo Lucky, he won the Hillyard Family and Trucks Service Centre 128cm championship and took a fourth place in the Grantham 4x4 Grand Prix.
Daniel also won the points awards as the leading rider, receiving a John Whitaker jacket, jodhpurs and chaps besides two new bridles and a walkie talkie.
He also had a third place in the Coniston Lad Small Grand Prix with Guinness Special.
