PEOPLE living in Durham are being urged to put their best foot forward for local celebrations of the Queen's golden jubilee.
Newton Hall Community Centre is planning to stage a lunch for pensioners, a painting competition for children and a barbecue and disco for adults.
It is holding a sponsored walk tomorrow to raise money for the events and is appealing for more walkers to take part.
County councillor George Hunter said: "So far, we have got enough money for the lunch.
"We will be walking four-and-a-half miles from Green Lane, through the Bluebell Woods at Houghall and taking people around by the old Durham Gardens so they get different views of the cathedral and castle.
"We have about 20 people taking part, but we could do with a few more.''
The walk starts at the cricket ground, in Green Lane, at 10am.
People can get sponsor forms on the day or in advance from Newton Hall Library. For further details contact Coun Hunter on 0191-384 8595
