A BANK holiday celebration will help Salvation Army singers mark a golden anniversary.
People in Shildon are invited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the town's Salvation Army Songster Brigade with meetings over the May bank holiday weekend.
Next Saturday, leader of the Salvation Army's International Staff Songsters, Andrew Blyth, will lead a celebratory festival, starting at 7pm.
Next day, Mr Blyth will lead meetings at 10am, 2.45pm and 6pm, all at Shildon Army Centre, in Cross Street.
Also taking part in the festival are Major Madge Engene, euphonium soloist John Murdock, and tenor Dennis Anderson. On Bank Holiday Monday, at 4pm, there will be informal singing of hymns and songs from the past 50 years, followed by a buffet supper.
A Shildon Salvation Army spokesman said: "Local residents and all those connected with the corps will be very welcome at any of the meetings.
"We want this to be a community event, celebrating this aspect of Salvation Army activity as we seek to serve spiritual growth and social need in the locality."
Anyone wishing to stay for the buffet on Monday is asked to contact secretary Audrey Pearson on (01388) 811916.
