MP praises store staff
STAFF at a Teesside shop received support from an MP yesterday for money raised through the National Lottery. The Village News, in Normanby High Street, welcomed Redcar MP Vera Baird to celebrate raising £970,198 for the Good Causes fund since 1994. The MP was accompanied by Ian Stubbs, from the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Marton, which was given £818,900 by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

LEISURE AWARD: Tees Valley Leisure has been awarded Investors In People accreditation. The organisation was established in 1999 to manage leisure facilities on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. Managing director Paddy Corcoran said the award was important because it made people understand the need to develop staff.
FOREST WEBSITE: The Tees Forest, which helps create woodland in the Tees Valley, has revamped its website. The new site lists countryside events and places to visit. It is on www.teesforest.org.uk
Moving on: John Weetman, the vicar of the parish of Boosbeck with Moorsholm, is moving to become vicar of St Peter's at Redcar in July. He will retain family links with the parish because his father, Ted, will continue to play the organ for Moorsholm church services.
Allotment shop: Lingdale Allotment Shop in Kilton Lane has re-opened for the growing season. The shop is run by volunteers. Opening hours are 5pm until 6pm on Wednesdays and 10am until noon on Saturdays and Sundays. For further information call (01287) 650965.

Annual assembly: Skelton and Brotton Parish Council holds its annual assembly in Skelton Civic Centre on Monday at 7.30pm. The public are welcome.
