A TOURIST attraction badly affected by the foot-and-mouth crisis last year is hoping for better things from the coming summer season.
Duncombe Park, near Helmsley, reopened to the public yesterday and has confirmed a series of events which it hopes will tempt tourists back to Ryedale and the North York Moors National Park.
The Bilsdale Silver Band performs in the grounds on Sunday, May 12, when a display has also been arranged by the Parkrose Bird of Prey Centre.
Other events in the coming weeks include a country fair, craft fair, antiques fair, steam fair and, of course, the traditional flat-cap flinging competition on August 1, which is Yorkshire Day.
"The park is looking spectacular in its spring colours. The livestock and the visitors are now able to roam freely and we are really looking forward to welcoming people back after the problems of 2001,'' said spokesman Ian Saggars.
