YOUNGSTERS across the borough of Stockton are being urged to aim higher today when a roadshow rolls into the area as an Excellence in Cities awareness event gets under way.
The Government roadshow, which will be based at Bede College, Hale Road, Billingham, is a national initiative to bring the message that higher education can be the key to a brighter future for all young people, whatever their backgrounds. It is part of the Excellence Challenge strand of Excellence in Cities, which aims to encourage more young people in local secondary schools to recognise the value of university in preparing them to reach their potential as part of a skilled workforce of the future.
Keith Robinson, director of Excellence in Cities in the Stockton borough, said: "It's crucial that we encourage as many young people as we can to continue their education beyond school-leaving age.
"There are some excellent courses available, both academic and more vocational and we strive to ensure pupils in all our secondary schools are aware of all the options open when they leave school."
The Aim Higher roadshow will be at the college from 9am to 3pm.
