AN exhibition of work by an east Durham artist opened this week in Easington Village's Discovery Centre.
Marguerite Elliott was born and went to school in Easington village before attending Wellfield School and later Sunderland College of Art, and the Royal College of Art in London.
She worked as a design consultant to a Scottish tweed manufacturer and spent most of her career as a lecturer in design and textiles in the North-East, Galashiels, Zurich and Huddersfield.
She is currently completing a set of embroideries for St Mary's Church, Easington.
Her exhibition at the Discovery Centre, in Seaton Holme, includes a number of drawings she completed as a student, along with several pictures she completed in more recent years.
Her works largely capture the often dramatic moments of everyday life and concentrate on the lighting and movement in the local landscape.
Her display of work is being exhibited in the Centre's Long Gallery, and will be on show until May 27.
A second exhibition of work by Peterlee artist Russell Stoves is also on show at the centre until May 29.
Mr Stoves turned his attention to his long-time passion of art after retiring following 40 years in the County's Ambulance Service.
Most of his works on display are of local scenes.
