Motorists on the move
The Northallerton branch of the Institute of Advanced Motorists meets at a new venue next week. The group normally gathers at The Lodge, Leeming Bar, but relocates to the Swaledale Fell Rescue Organisation's HQ, Hipswell Road West, Catterick Garrison, next Wednesday, where members will be given a talk on the charity's role and have the opportunity to examine their facilities and equipment. The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
DANCE DATE: Double AA American Linedance will be back in Catterick Garrison next month. The Civil Service Club hosts a Country and Western Night on Saturday, May 11, including a live performance by Gone Country. The evening starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available by telephoning (01748) 833844.
AQUA SHOW: Ryedale Aquarist Society is holding its annual tropical and coldwater fish open show at the Pickering centre of Askham Bryan College on Sunday, May 12. Everyone is welcome to attend. More details are available on (01751) 472715.
HOWARDS' HEROES: Major Roger Chapman, of the Green Howards Museum, will give a talk about the historic local regiment at Richmond library on Wednesday, May 8, from 2pm to 3.30pm. Tickets are free and can be collected from the library.
RAILWAY MEETING: The annual meeting of the Northallerton branch of the Wensleydale Railway Association takes place on Monday, May 13, at 7.30pm, in the RAFA Club. A presentation of archive films will be given by guest speaker Ken Clough.
BUILDING BRIDGES: Architect John Carr, who built Richmond's Green Bridge, is the subject of the next lecture arranged by the town's Civic Society. Mary Wragg will give the talk about his work at the Zetland Christian Community Centre, at 7.30pm, on Friday, May 10. Visitors are welcome, although non-members will be charged £3 admission.
FAIR DATE: Danby Village Hall, near Whitby, will host an antiques and collectors fair on Monday. Doors open at 10am with a 30p admission fee going to local charities. A similar event over Easter raised £100 for Redcar lifeboat and the Cleveland Search and Rescue Team. Another £240 raised through the refreshment stall was donated to the University Hospital of North Tees Breast Care Fund.
