RURAL affairs minister Alun Michael will be joining people from across the region tomorrow at an event designed to help shape the future of food and farming in England.

The meeting, at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate is one of eight being held all around England.

At each event Government ministers and officials will meet a wide range of organisations and individuals - including food, farming, rural, environmental, consumer and other interests - to talk about how to turn the vision of Sir Don Curry's Policy Commission into action.

Participants will be contributing to an intensive period of debate designed to deliver ways of putting the Policy Commission's ideas into practice, to create more sustainable food and farming industries which support thriving rural economies and protect and enhance the environment.

The results of the Harrogate meeting will feed into a new national strategy for sustainable farming and food to be published by the government in the autumn.
