COCKNEY actress Lorraine Chase was truly wafted over the region's skies in a multi-million pound jet yesterday in her latest daredevil charity stunt.
It was more RAF Leeming than Luton Airport, and there were no Latin charmers in sight, but the star of the famous 1970s Campari advert still cut a recognisable figure as she geared up for a ride in one of the North Yorkshire base's Hawk jets.
Ms Chase, who has just landed a part in TV soap Emmerdale, endured the white-knuckle ride to help raise the profile of the Lady Taverners charity.
Her fundraising work for the group, which provides sporting opportunities for disabled youngsters, has already included a parachute jump into the sea from an RAF Hercules and a spot of abseiling with Commandos.
The charity raises more than £600,000 a year.
During her day at Leeming, Ms Chase sampled the full range of military transport, also taking a ride in an armoured personnel carrier and a flight in a Tornado F3 simulator.
"It went very well in the jet. We did some really scary rolls and it was a wonderful experience," she said.
"Yorkshire looks even more lovely from up there."
Ms Chase begins filming her first scenes as Tricia's mother and Alan Turner's daughter, in Emmerdale, in July. She will feature in the soap until December.
