A WOODLAND burial site has been created in the corner of Guisborough Cemetery.
Created by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, it has 39 conventional grave spaces in an area which will be managed as a traditional woodland.
The council will plant a tree following each burial and an inscribed plaque at the entrance to the cemetery will feature a map with the names of those buried.
Councillor Brian Hogg, lead member for sustainable environment, said: "This site offers the opportunity for a less commercialised form of burial, while contributing to the environment with the creation of a new woodland."
Local clergy are being invited to view the burial ground and details of the facility are being circulated to the area's funeral directors.
It will be available for use from June.
