Darlington captain Craig Liddle has followed manager Tommy Taylor's lead by giving his full-backing to the Darlington Supporters Trust.

The government-backed scheme was set-up in September last year and is intended to become a window of communication between fans and the club.

Part of the Trust's remit is to develop links with the community and work on projects and fund-raising ideas to benefit the town and the fans.

The fan-based initiative, which now has well over a 100 members, aims to support various schemes, including a coaching course for girls, while it has also organised a project called Farewell To Feethams, which will culminate in a photographic exhibition at the town's Arts Centre later this year.

Liddle has been with the club for four years and his importance in the fans' eyes was displayed when they give him great support during the last two games of the season at Feethams.

The centre-back has returned the compliment by paying his £5 subscription fee to join, just two weeks after Taylor also praised the Trust for it's work.

"Darlington fans have been fantastic to me personally and to the team since I've been at the club and it's appreciated by all of us," said Liddle.

"I know Darlo fans care deeply about their club and from what I've heard of the Trust, anything that is going to be positive for the club off the pitch is to be welcomed.

"I've been told the Trust is looking at different projects, including organising a project involving football coaching for girls, which I know is an area the PFA is also involved in nationally.

"Let's hope between us we can get it right on and off the pitch."
