THE Duke of Edinburgh will visit Durham University Stockton Campus on Wednesday as part of the Queen's golden jubilee celebrations.
Prince Philip is due to arrive outside the Ebsworth building at 3.10, where the mayor, Coun Jean O'Donnell, Dari Taylor, MP for Stockton South, and Barry Shaw, Chief Constable of Cleveland, will be presented to him.
He will be greeted by the vice-chancellor, Sir Kenneth Calman, who will present Prof Roy Boyne, Prof Adrian Darnell, Matthew Smith and Louise McCathie.
In the foyer, there will be an opportunity for him to look at a display about the development of the campus since May, 1993, when the Queen and Duke performed the official opening.
He will then visit the human performance laboratory where Barry Drust and Dr Stephen Garland will explain the use of sports machines being used by a number of students. There will also be an opportunity for the Duke to speak to the students.
From there, he will be escorted to the human sciences and physiology laboratories, before returning to the foyer to meet groups including research staff from the new Wolfston research unit, student representatives from the two new colleges and senior university officers.
The Duke will then be invited by the vice-chancellor to unveil a plaque commemorating his visit and sign the visitors' book, before leaving to rejoin the Queen at Teesside Airport.
