FOREST riders now have a new voice, thanks to the recently formed Guisborough Bridleways Group.
A committee of 15, under the chairmanship of Julie Fishpool, was formed following a well attended meeting at the Branch Walkway Centre, Pinchinthorpe.
Laura Dickens, junior secretary, said the main aim was to work alongside the Forestry Commission to repair and restore frequently used track.
The commission's attention has been drawn to the fact that many of the bridleways and tracks are unsuitable or impassable by horse.
The group hopes to modify them so they are safer and easier to ride on.
"This, in many cases, will also be of great benefit to local walkers and bikers in the area, as some of the tracks are boggy or slippy to access," said Miss Dickens.
A pleasure ride through the forest and moorland to raise money for the work has been organised for June 9.
The route will be well marked and marshalled by committee members.
Riders will set out at intervals in small groups to prevent accidents.
Options for the route are eight miles, 14 miles and a much shorter ride for young children and lead rein ponies.
It will set out from Foxdale farm field between 9.30 and noon.
Entry is £10 for adults and £5 for children, including a rosette for all finishers. All riders must have their own third party insurance.
The proceeds will go immediately towards raising money for the tracks and will also take the place of the previous permit needed for riders to enter the forest. Donations are welcomed from those unable to attend.
