A TALENTED trio received extra praise at a ceremony to honour the achievements of year 11 pupils at St John's RC Comprehensive School, Bishop Auckland
Simon Quinn, of Derwent Avenue, West Auckland, has represented the school at football, cricket, basketball and athletics.
Simon, 16, said: "The award was for balancing sport, for which I stay back after school most nights, with studying. I've never found it difficult, sport takes my mind off schoolwork, and I like representing the school."
Caroline Kirby, 16, of Grange View, Coundon Gate, received her award for academic achievement and her caring attitude.
She said: "I've always tried to get on with everyone in school and help others, such as a trip to Lourdes to help the sick, and am proud of the award."
Philip Smith, 16, of Woodhouse Close, has not missed a day of school since he was a nine-year pupil at St Wilfred's Primary School.
Durham police Chief Constable George Hedges, who presented the awards, said: "It was a great privilege, youngsters deserve some good press as they are too often seen in a negative light.
"This is a new chapter in their lives and, hopefully, confidence and recognition at this stage will help them in whatever they choose to do next."
