TEENAGER Kirsten McGuigan is the disco dancing queen of Europe.
The 16-year-old youngster from Leadgate, near Consett, beat off competition from all over Europe when she won the adult category in the Eurodance International Festival competition at Brean Sands, in Somerset, at the weekend.
Kirsten, who attends Moorside Community College, went to the Lorraine Murray Dance School, in Blackhill, with Pop Idol star Zoe Birkett. The girls were also fellow pupils at Consett Infant School before Zoe star moved to Darlington.
Proud mum Lynne McGuigan could hardly contain her joy.
She said: "She's been dancing since she was six and takes it very seriously.
"She has only just turned 16 so must have been the youngest in the adult category.
"There were dancers from as far as Norway competing and she beat off 50 other competitors to win."
Kirsten, who attends dance school in Sunderland, now plans to take up Theatre Studies at A-Level.
