POLICE are appealing to people living in a seaside town for help in piecing together a father-of-four's last day alive.
The body of unemployed construction worker David Griffiths, 39, was found by workmen sifting through a pile of rubbish at a recycling plant in Dockside Road, Middlesbrough, a week ago..
He had contacted his wife, Carol, from a telephone kiosk in Middlesbrough at about 3am to say he was making his way home to North Ormesby, but Mr Griffiths never arrived there.
A post-mortem examination established Mr Griffiths died from crushing injuries and his death is being treated as suspicious.
Detectives investigating the former doorman's last movements have found he visited Redcar on Thursday last week.
They are trying to trace his activities in the town, where he spent most of the day, before returning to Middlesbrough in the early evening.
What detectives investigating his death need to know is exactly where he was and who he was with.
Detective Superintendent Mark Braithwaite, who is heading the investigation, said: "We know he visited Redcar with friends last Wednesday and told them he intended to return the following day.
"We know he went there on the Thursday and telephoned his wife from the town on Thursday afternoon.
"We are piecing together his last movements and need to know where he went that Thursday and who he was with.''
Anyone with information is asked to telephone Cleveland Police on (01642) 303187.
