AN OPEN-MIKE comedy night is in danger of turning into a one-man show if more comedians do not step forward soon.
Darlington funnyman Tony Hindle is organising the event after returning to the town from a ten-year stint on the comedy circuit in London.
He is keen to get back on the stage and has organised a comedy night for Wednesday, May 16, at the Tap and Spile pub in Darlington.
Mr Hindle has put up posters and delivered leaflets appealing for jokers to join him, but has been disappointed with the response.
Mr Hindle said: "I'll do the night on my own if I have to, but it would be much more fun if some Darlington comedians would step forward to join in.
"When I go around the pubs in the town I meet some hilarious people and a lot of them said they would have a go, but I haven't heard from them since."
Mr Hindle, who lives in Victoria Embankment, said that the trouble was people did not having the nerve to stand up in front of people and be funny.
"It can be quite scary, but there are no rules for the night, and audiences are usually quite nice," he said.
Potential comics of any experience are invited to join in, and acts can take the form of stand-up, sketches or double-acts.
Anyone interested in taking part in the event, which starts at 9pm in the Tap and Spile, can contact Tony Hindle on 07714 903308.
