PROFESSORS and researchers from the world's top universities will descend on the North-East next week for a meeting of minds.
Billingham catalyst company, Synetix, is hosting the three-day event at the Sunderland Marriott Hotel in Seaburn, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
More than 100 scientists from universities across the UK and the world will join representatives from Synetix and other ICI businesses for the 11th annual meeting.
They are expected to discuss the latest technical advancements in catalytic processes. Catalysts are substances that promote chemical change.
Speakers from Synetix will include Dr Martin Partridge, who will present the company's latest developments.
This year, the event will feature a special exercise for students, giving them the opportunity to apply their brain power to explore commercially operated catalytic processes.
Dr David Prest, technical director at Synetix, said: "This annual symposium always provides a valuable opportunity for both industry and academic representatives to debate and discuss issues and problems in a new way.
"We share the knowledge we have picked up through our studies and research, and gain an insight into everyone's individual work.
