THE second phase of a project into the prevention of landslides is due to get under way after a cash injection from the region's Innovation Action Fund.
IDA Technologies, of Billingham, which specialises in engineering and scientific research, has begun pioneering research to combat land movement on embankments and subsidence in houses.
After contacting Business Link Tees Valley, the firm, formed by a group of retired engineers and scientists, was awarded an innovation grant of £5,000 towards the £80,000 project.
Colin Metcalf, overseas consultant for the firm, said: "What we are trying to do is speed up the natural phenomena of diagenesis, which is the process that continually hardens the ground until it resembles rock. We have accelerated the process by making a cell of non-toxic materials, which produces a small voltage and drives the diagenesis process."
IDA Technologies was put in touch with Graham Turner, the Innovation Facilitator at Business Link Tees Valley, who recommended One North-East's Pioneer Innovation Action Fund.
