SUNDERLAND will be a sea of red and white - and green - for veteran forward Niall Quinn's charity benefit match.
The relegation-threatened Premier League side will play the Republic of Ireland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday, May 14, with the proceeds going to children's hospitals in the city and Dublin.
Sunderland City Council plans to hang banners of Irish international Quinn in the club's red and white shirts and the national side's green strip from lampposts across the city, and put up hanging baskets with ribbons in the colours of the two teams.
Up to 40,000 mini-windmills with the slogan Nice One Niall will be given to children in schools and hospitals. School dinner ladies are also being urged to decorate their serving hatches with bunting in the team colours.
City marketing manager June Elliott said: "Sunderland has gone football crazy. We are delighted to be able to do our bit to welcome visitors and help Niall celebrate this fantastic occasion.
