A FUNERAL service will be held tomorrow for a GP who worked in the same town for 30 years.
Duncan Robertson, who was 60, was a senior partner in the Friary surgery until his retirement in October, 1999.
He arrived in Richmond with wife Jean soon after their marriage, which followed a brief encounter at St Pancras railway station in London.
Their fathers kept in touch after attending the same primary school and the couple first met when both families waited for Jean's safe return from her first job away from home.
Dr and Mrs Robertson's move to Richmond was supposed to be for no more than six months but they fell in love with Swaledale and stayed on.
When not at the surgery, Dr Robertson enjoyed making furniture and he created the chapel altar at Richmond's Friary Hospital.
The couple also enjoyed travelling and their expeditions abroad included a trip to the Amazon, a Kenyan safari and a journey to the rainforests of Java.
Dr Robertson, who died at home, leaves widow, Jean, sons Andrew and David and daughters Fiona and Heather.
The funeral service will be held at St Mary's Church at 1pm tomorrow and will be followed by a private cremation.
