A DEVELOPER'S bid to build homes and a supermarket on the eastern edge of Catterick Garrison looks set to fail next week.
Gregory Properties is hoping for permission to add more homes to Colburn's Regents Park estate and to replace the Scorpion nightclub with a Netto store.
However, the firm has not done enough to win over Richmondshire District Council's planning department, which is recommending the proposals are refused when councillors meet tonight.
A detailed report points out the project would contravene the local authority's own polices on housing.
Officers claim it could also jeopardise a long-term plan for Colburn's Walkerville area, as the homes and store would be built on land which the local authority has selected for shops and community facilities.
More than 100 houses are also planned half a mile away, in Catterick Road, along with Colburn's new business park.
Planning officers say that if Gregory Properties' application is allowed to go ahead, there would be nowhere left to develop new facilities to cater for the needs of the growing community.
