A TOWN has launched a search for its own queen and princess as part of preparations for an annual carnival.
Women and girls from Shildon aged between 13 and 25 years are being invited to enter the competition for this year's carnival queen.
Girls between five and 12 are to compete for the role of princess.
Entrants for the event, organised by Shildon Chamber of Trade, are invited to gather at the Civic Hall on Saturday, May 19, at 7pm, where four independent judges will choose the winners.
As well as a queen and princess, four attendants will also be chosen. Admission to the event is £1.
This year's queen will receive a cash prize, cape, sash tiara, bouquet of flowers and a framed portrait. There will also be prizes for the princess and attendants.
Entry forms are available from Decor Supplies, 91-95 Church Street, Shildon, or from the Shildon Centre, in Main Street.
