A Stockton student has been nominated for a top national education award.
Grangefield School pupil Rebecca Farley, 16, has made the shortlist for the vocational and academic achievement award at the Edexcel Achievement in Education Awards 2002.
If she wins, she will receive £1,000 to spend on an educational activity or item of her choice and Grangefield School will get £1,000.
She will also be entered for the Outstanding Student of the Year Award, which is being judged by a panel including former Beirut hostage Terry Waite CBE, Bear Grylls, the youngest Briton to climb Everest, and football referee David Elleray.
The winner will receive an additional £4,000 to spend on their education, and their school, college or training centre will also get £4,000.
The awards will be presented at a dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London in July.
Rebecca, of Barrhead Close, is studying for ten GCSEs and has impressed teachers with her ability in maths - one of her test scores was the highest recorded at the school.
