A TEENAGER admitted a charge of robbery at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.
The 16-year-old, who is from Darlington but cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place on February 24 this year. The case was adjourned for 28 days and the youth was remanded in custody.
CYCLE SERVICE: The Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope, will be the guest preacher at St. Michael's Church, Coxwold, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, on Sunday, when more than 300 cyclists will converge on the village from across Yorkshire and Teesside for their 75th service of remembrance, at 1.30pm. Cyclists will act as bell-ringers, collectors, readers, choristers and organist during the service at the 15th Century church.
VICTIM NAMED: A girl killed when her moped was in collision with a tractor near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, on Friday, was named yesterday as 16-year-old Marie Stebbings, from Carlton Husthwaite. Her pillion passenger, who was taken to the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, with series injuries was named as Kate Shorthouse, a 15-year-old from Coxwold.
PIZZA MAN ROBBED: A pizza delivery man was forced to hand over £200 to two hooded attackers when they threatened him with a 7in knife in York. The victim, who works for Haci's Caf, Front Street, Acomb, was set upon in Avenue Terrace, Bootham. The robbery took place just 90 minutes after a man suffered head injuries in an unprovoked attack nearby. Detectives are not thought to be linking the two incidents.
WITNESS APPEAL: Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident on the A61, at the Bishop Monkton crossroads, south of Ripon, North Yorskshire, at 3.50pm on Sunday. Motorcyclist Craig Allamby, of Ripon, was taken to hospital with leg and shoulder injuries after his machine collided with a Rover car. Driver Judith Blackburn, of Farnham, was shaken but unhurt. ALL ABOUT IMAGE: York Tourism Bureau chief executive Gillian Cruddas has criticised the "miserable and negative image" created by horses tethered by the Hull Road and A166 approaches to the city. She spoke out after complaints by tourists. "I think it is cruel. These animals have a miserable existence. It does not say what we want to say about York," she said.
