AN NHS trust is to impose car parking charges on its patients, their relatives, and hospital staff to raise cash.
Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Trust, which covers hospitals at Scarborough, Whitby, Malton and Bridlington, says the money from pay and display machines will be ploughed back into trust funds and improving the park by employing security guards.
Richard Mottram, the trust's transport manager, said the park at Scarborough General would be targeted in the scheme. Motorists will have to pay £1 for one to four hours, and £2 to park all day. There will also be a charge of 50p to park for up to an hour.
He said a number of other trusts in Yorkshire also made parking charges.
The trust is about £3.5m in the red
