THEY have lived through two world wars, brought up families and helped run family businesses. Now two Sunderland residents are celebrating their 100th birthdays.
Families, friends and celebrities joined May Gibson and Ellen Waugh, of Croft Care Home in High Barnes, Sunderland for a party of a lifetime yesterday to mark their century milestone.
Among the guests were Sunderland Mayor Councillor Ken Murray, former Sunderland captain Bobby Kerr, who led his team to FA Cup victory in 1973, and former Sunderland striker Eric Gates. Sun FM radio DJ Jillie Hope also paid them a visit.
They were treated to a cabaret performance by Steve Dee, who sang for the Queen during her visit to Newcastle this week.
Manager Moyra Metcalfe said: "Both of them said they've never enjoyed themselves so much."
Mrs Gibson turned 100 on May 1 and Mrs Waugh will celebrate her birthday next Thursday
