Bishop Auckland under-18s clinched the League title with a 3-2 victory at home to Chilton YC in the last game of the season last week. Gary Whittaker gave Bishops a 16th minute lead, Adam Reid equalising for Chilton three minutes later. The score remained at 1-1 until five minutes into the second half when Chilton, needing only a draw to take the title, went ahead through Michael McGowan.
Neil Robinson levelled for Bishops in the 77th minute, but it was not until the first minute of injury time that Robinson grabbed the Auckland winner and with it the championship. Chris Renshaw was Bishops MoM.
This is the second time Bishops have won the league since it was re-formed in 1994. Chilton won it in 2000, and last season Bishops lost to Crook Town in a title play-off.
Earlier in the week, Chilton had won 2-0 at Willington to go a point clear at the top of the table.
Ferryhill won 3-0 at home to Spennymoor Legion to complete their programme. Kevin Hodgson (2) and Philip Sheehan got the goals, and Joe Makepeace was Ferryhill MoM.
Byers Green
THE Under-11s finished their season with a 3-2 win away at Newbottle. This was a good, hard-fought performance by two midtable teams who never gave in until the end. Newbottle took an early lead in the first half, after this the game was evenly matched until half time. In the second half Newbottle increased the lead from a quickly taken free kick, they then had the chance to increase the lead but for a goal line clearance from Tom Burn. With eight minutes remaining Byers won a free kick which Reece Ellis rolled the ball back for Josh Fowler to strike from 25yds, the play was fast and furious with Byers gaining another free kick again taken by Josh Fowler who drove it over the wall & into the top corner. This lifted Byers who now pressurised Newbottle for a winner, this came from confusion in the Newbottle defence after pressure from Reece Ellis the ball broke loose for Richard Suddes to round the keeper and score the winner in stoppage time.
Crook Town
THE Under-19s comfortably won their Northern Alliance League Supplementary Cup semi-final against Bradford Park Avenue 4-0.
A Paul Freary hat-trick and a goal from Mark Surtees sealed the victory. They now play either Ossett Town or Pontefract Collieries in the final on Sunday on a neutral ground, either at Bradford Park Avenue or Pontefract.
Coxhoe Athletic
THE Under-16s won the Russell Foster division one championship after a goalless draw with Durham County in a hard fought game of few chances in which both defences came out on top. This is the first trophy Coxhoe have won since starting out in 1997 as U12, a reward for hard work from both players and management.
