People interested in education and the future of schools in their communities are being asked to consider filling an important role.
Councillor Ian Jeffrey, lead member for lifelong learning with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said it was delighted with the initial response to a campaign to recruit school governors - but more were needed.
He said: "We appointed 16 new governors last month. Many have already begun their induction training and started to attend governing body meetings."
There are new vacancies in the Grangetown, South Bank and Eston areas.
Glennie Smith, of the council's school governor support services department, said training was provided.
She said: "If you are aged 18 or older, are interested in the education of the borough's children and would be willing to commit some time to the important role of governing a school, we would be pleased to hear from you."
