George Mann Cup

The competition, which was saved by the donation of a Flix pitch from Durham County Cricket Board, Nat. West, and Sport England will begin at Wolsingham School and Community College on Monday 13 May. Weardale Steel again is the sponsor of the competition.

The first weeks fixtures are: Monday - Wolsingham Club v Tow Law Black Horse; Tuesday - Wolsingham All Stars v Weardale Steel; Wednesday - Wolsingham Sixth Form v Sunniside Comedian; Thursday, Wolsingham Teachers v Stanhope All Stars. All matches begin at 6.5pm.

The Readers Durham County League U18s

Scott Hopson (52no) and Michael Fort (54no) were in top form for Brandon against Crook Town. The pair who opened the innings, led Brandon to 114 for nil and replying Crook put up a spirited performance before being restricted to 99 for the loss of six wickets. Fawcett was their leading batsman scoring 38 and for Brandon Hopson took three of the six wickets to fall for 16 runs in five overs.Tudhoe also had a couple of batsmen in top form. Jonathan Taylor made 57 and Tim Smalley 51 as Tudhoe posted 124 for five against Ushaw Moor for whom Gill captured three wickets for 30 runs in five overs. Responding, Ushaw Moor were all out for 52.Bishop Auckland had just 13 runs to spare following a high-scoring game at Mainsforth.Batting first, Bishops ended with 13 for six thanks to contributions of 51 from Stones and 44 by Alderson. Brian Waterworth returned two for 18 and Ian Thompson two for 34 in the Mainsforth attack. The home side went for victory but at stumps had made just 100 for the loss of four wickets. Chris Hardwick was in fine form contributing 64 and Bishop's David Atkinson had three for 13. Despite an unbeaten 50 by Chris Palmer, Newton Aycliffe managed just 78 replying to the Evenwood total of 107.

Premier Sports Durham Coast League U18s

AStephenson, (24) and Stephen Gale, with a well played innings of 55, led Dawdon to a match-winning 113 for five at Peterlee.

When the home side replied they were just five runs short of victory, finishing on 109 for seven which included 64 by Dave Wilson. Mark Ewart returned two for 29 in the Dawdon attack.

Hylton won by five wickets at home to Silksworth and in the only other game played Houghton had just eight runs in hand of Ryhope.

Carl White top scored with 35 and Ian Dixon carried his bat for 28 as Houghton made 87 for four. In reply, Ryhope had 79 which included 31 by Pearson and 23 from Scott while for Houghton Craig Dowell had two for eight and Dan Dixon four for nine.

Foster's Tyneside League U15s

Sacriston easily defeated Tantobie by eight wickets when Chris Hindmarsh picked up three for five runs in three overs and Craig Burke had three for 17 in his four over spell. Tantobie managed only 47 and replying Sacriston romped home with Mark Fort and Chris Hindmarsh both carrying their bats.

Crookhall fared even worse when they visited Lanchester, making just 18 all out. Stuart McPhail captured four for nine runs and Kevin Dixon three for two before Lanchester went on to win losing just one wicket.

Whickham were all out for 55 as Little returned five for 12 in the Blaydon attack. Batting first, Blaydon totalled 69 for four to win by 14 runs.

Kibblesworth reached 85 for the loss of six wickets at home to Chopwell who were 62 for nine. Craig Burlison top scored with 30 for Kibblesworth whose bowler Ross Taylor claimed three for nine. The games between Annfield Plain and Consett, Greenside and Shotley Bridge and Lintz and Ryton were cancelled due to the weather.

New County North Durham Youth League

Redheugh lifted the Charlie Thomas Memorial Trophy with a 3-0 victory over Hebburn with goals from Gary Warmsley (2) and Stephen Hall.

In the semi-final played two days earlier Redheugh saw off the challenge from West Denton by a 2-1 margin thanks to a brace of goals from David Jeffers.

Cleveland Hall were successful over Redheugh in the U16 division Subsidiary Cup Final winning 2-1. Michael Maughan and Chris Laws were on target for Cleveland Hall with Tony Thirkell replying for the Reds.

Federation Special U15 Durham Senior League Cup

Despite a good all-round performance by Matthew Wilson, Whitburn lost by 11 runs against Sunderland.

Batting first Sunderland posted 78 for nine when Wilson returned the outstanding figures of four for 17.

Despite top scoring with 21, Whitburn were all out for just 67.

South Shields also made it into round two with a six wickets success over Burnmoor at Wood Terrace.

Pearson carried his bat for 39 as Burnmoor reached 74 for six with Bobby Storer taking three of the wickets at a cost of just 15 runs.

Responding, South Shields were indebted to Paul Muchall, who remained undefeated on 28 and Michael Dunn (25). Four wickets were shared by Robinson at a cost of 19 runs and Hall who conceded 18 runs.

Federation Special Durham Senior League U18s

Philip Bell was in outstanding form for Gateshead Fell who met Philadelphia at their Low Fell ground.

Bell struck an unbeaten 75 in his team's total of 118 for one which was more than sufficient since Phili managed only 78 for three in reply.

Eppleton went two runs better than Gateshead Fell in the scoring stakes ending on 120 for two when they hosted South Hetton. Michael Lowther, a regular in the Eppleton first team contributed 42 and Andrew Gibson 35. South Hetton managed only 86 for three at stumps.

A sound innings of 29 by Ben Embleton was insufficient for Burnmoor who ended on 87 for five, a target which Boldon met for the loss of just four wickets.

South Shields reached 111 visiting Durham City who were 87 when their overs expired.

Federation Special Durham Senior League U15s

The weather prevented a number of games going ahead but there were victories for Philadelphia and Whitburn.

Phili had 23 runs to spare when they played Gateshead Fell despite making only 76 for the loss of four wickets which included 38 by David Roche.

Andrew Porter bowled well for the Fell claiming two of the four wickets to fall for 15 runs. When they replied, Gateshead Fell were restricted to 53 for seven as Keiron Smith claimed two for 25 and Keiron Waterson two for nine.

Horden totalled 60 for four at home to Whitburn at half the runs were scored by Paul Robinson with an unbeaten 30. Shaun Prosser then guided Whitburn to a nine wickets win when he contributed 32.

George Peacock Memorial Trophy

David Lowther, a regular in the first team, played a leading role when Eppleton progressed at the expense of Burnmoor. The talented youngster claimed four wickets for a miserly 11 runs to peg Burnmoor to 75 for nine. Lowther then took over with the bat and in a commanding innings finished unbeaten with 56 out of a total of 76 for five.

Philadelphia had nine wickets in hand at home to Gateshead Fell who were all for just 38. Will Orchin captured four for only seven runs in five overs and Jon Grant returned two for 12, also in five overs. Phili romped home losing just one wicket.

Durham City were eight wicket winners when they visited Hetton Lyons. Joel Hughes, Tim Edwards and Brian Potts all took two wickets when Hetton Lyons totalled 60 for seven.

Replying, Durham City had eight wickets left as Joel Hughes carried his bat for 22.

Chester-le-Street posted 95 for five at Felling where they won by a margin of 23 runs. John Coxon carried his bat for 38 and Moore added 25 for the Cestrians while for Felling Mark Vinton took three wickets for 27 runs in five overs.

Although Craig Harrison batted well scoring 37, Felling managed only 72 for seven as Stephen Merrington returned three for 15.

David Maughan made a splendid 73 not out and Ray McRae contributed 32 to the South Shields total of 127 for three compiled in 20 overs. South Hetton playing at home could only muster 58 for four with Johnny Wightman claiming two for five from four overs.

Johnson, 47 not out and Murphy with an undefeated 43 led Horden to 105 without loss at Marsden who replied with 38 for five and there was also victory for Whitburn at Boldon.

Chris Mackley top scored with 37 but Boldon managed 85 for seven as Paul Marshall captured three for 19 runs.

Responding, Whitburn won with eight wickets left as Ross Carty remained undefeated on 40.

Fosters Northumberland and Tyneside League U15s

Burnopfield beat the weather and Lintz to register a ten wickets victory after bowling out their visitors for only 29.

Lee Stoneman captured four wickets for a miserly 12 runs, Adam Timmins took two wickets for two runs and Chris Snowball had figures of two for three.

Mark Stoneman then hit a quick unbeaten 26 in partnership with Marcus Peart and the pair added 30 runs in just 2.4 overs.

Greg Holliday (40) and Kevin Dixon, with an undefeated 54 led Lanchester to 118 for one in just 20 overs. Sacriston were 60 for three in 10.1 overs when the rain intervened. Burke was unbeaten on 25 and Holliday completed a good night taking two for 12 in five overs.

The game between Crookhall and Annfield Plain was also abandoned because of rain. Daniel Stewart recorded three sixes and seven fours in 68 out of the Crookhall total of 123 for six. Stewart then captured three wickets for seven runs in five overs while Annfield Plain were reduced to 18 for three.

Chopwell totalled 85 for eight with Graham Ward returning three for 21 from five overs and Paul Soulsby three for nine in his four overs spell before rain stopped play with Tantobie on 25 for three.

Consett had made 13 for the loss of one wicket at home to Kibblesworth whose 64 for the loss of seven wickets included 28 by McGuire. The man of the match however, was Consett's Matthew Dixon who in five overs took five wickets for just four runs.
