In the League Cup final two mistakes by Stranton Saints - Hartlepool goalkeeper Stuart Morrow gave Monkwearmouth Christians a 2-0 lead George Churchill scoring the first followed by Elliot Ord.
Churchill got his second with Ben Hodgeson stretching Monkwearmouth lead to 4-0. A quick reply for Stranton from
Andy Picken made the half time score 4-1. A shot corner for Stranton that went horribly wrong saw Churchill time his run from his own half collect the ball and score to complete his hat trick .In The 59th minute Stranton were awarded a penalty taken by Paul Gough which Lee Austin dived to his right and the spot kick round the post, with Monkwearmouth finishing 5-1 winners and win the League Cup for the first time.
In Division One Jesmond Parish Church were crowned Division Champions doing it in style all be it away at Bethshan Christian Centre with a 7-1 win. Bethshan started with ten men and lead 1 -0 Jesmond got their act together and wore leading 3-1 by half time with four second half goals, Ben Chambers and David Angier scored twice, Andy Widdrington, Kieron McGrane and Tom Digby notching the goals for Jesmond. Heworth Christian Fellowship who seemed doomed to division two are holding on with two matches left against second place. Metro Church Sunderland who are going for the Championship and third place Consett Methodist Church. First up were Metro Church Sunderland on Heworths ground who took a 2-0 lead at the break from Anthony Dixon and Lee Wilkinson.
Ryan Pender pulled a goal back for Metro with David Fittes putting Heworth into a 3-1 lead, Simon Normandale and Jon Boyd tied the match at 3-3 David Fittes popped up to gave Heworth a shock 4-3 win and play at home to Consett on Thursday. Meanwhile Monkwearmouth Christian need to beat Heaton Hearts at home on
Wednesday which relegate Heaton and Heworth. If Heaton win Heworth and Monkwearmouth will be relegated. Consett need to beat Heworth 8-0 to be Division One Runners up any thing less and the honour goes to Metro Church.
In Division Two Saint Peter's Low Fell were promoted as Division Two Champions with Ryton Churches also promoted although Lanchester Chapel played twice this week beating Westagte Road Baptist Church 4-2 and playing Whitley Bay Baptist Church on Saturday with the match tied at 2-2 after 45 minutes with David Miller and Neil Orr scoring for the Baptist's Lanchester Chapel took control in the second half to win the match 9-2 Andrew Knighton and Andrew Sword both scored hat tricks with Ian Lockey, Chris Petts and Neil Tinkler adding to the score sheet. The two Teesside teams both wrapped up the season with wins Yarm Emmanuel entertained Bethany Christian Fellowship and won 4-1 with all four goals coming from David McQuillan. Ronnie Smith responding for Bethany. Middlesbrough Baptist's made the long trek to Saint Aiden Chapel Castington which is north of Morpeth. With Ian Marshall scoring two goals it was enough for Middlesbrough to win 9-1, Vinny Richards connecting for Saint Aiden's.
Emergency Services League
With three weeks remaining, it's as you were with both of the top two winning whilst hoping that the other would slip up. Frankland were seven goal winners over depleted Derwentside. The visitors had held their own for an hour, only trailing to Richie Knott goal, whilst had good chances of their own. Two goals scored in quick succession finished
Derwentside and Frankland cruised home. Knott scored two more to complete a hat trick, whilst Ian Gibson (2), Dave Nicholson and Peter Anderson got the others. Easington overcame future cup final opponents Durham Fire 4-2, to maintain their treble challenge. Neil Robinson was the hero scoring a hat -trick with Keith James completing the scoring. Colin Jones got both goals for the Fire Brigade.
Newcastle moved into third place with a hard earned win at Langbaurgh. Barrie Joiyce got both goals for Newcastle, who will be satisfied with their position in their first season with the league. Paul Murphy's Goal was Langbaurgh's last of the season in what has been a season of great improvement.
CLS and Stockton both fielded teams of less than 11, but Stockton had the most players and raced into a four goal interval lead. CLS claimed the second half, winning it 2-1, to lose out 5-2 overall.
Noel Young (2), Sean Close (2) and Paul Ryder got the Stockton goals, whilst Ellis Hall got both CLS goals.
Saints clocked up two wins in the week, beating both bottom clubs, Sedgefield 3-1 and Darlington 5-0 to boost their position.
Hathaway Auckland and District League
After a three year gap Cockfield are champions again. Stephen Rogers opened the scoring against Coxhoe Athletic and a header from David Wilkinson wrapped up the title.
Cockfield have dominated the league this season though a late dip in form meant the title was not sewn up till their final game.
Coxhoe also had cause for celebration when they came from behind to beat Seaham Mallard 3-1 in the final of the Washington Aged Peoples Cup.
Stephen Weir, John Parnaby and Kevin Bush scored.
Brandon Station finish runners up in the league after beating Coxhoe 2-0 with goals from Ian Ambrosini and Gavin Bell.
The Station lost out in the South Durham Bowl final against Crook Wanderers.
After a goalless game Wanderers won 5-4 on penalties.
