A GROUP of engineering enthusiasts from the Science Museum in London have visited a popular Darlington landmark.
The members of the national Newcomen Society visited the Tees Cottage Pumping Station yesterday to tour the site.
The society promotes the study of the history of engineering and technology.
The northern branch of the society visited the pumping station a number of years ago, but this was the first time members of the national society, based at the Science Museum, had visited the region.
A spokesman for the pumping station said: "The station is open this weekend, so we were able to get both pumps working to show our visitors.
"It was good for them to see the station and an honour for us to welcome them to the area."
The pumping station, which has just had a £100,000 refurbishment, is open to visitors from 11am to 5pm today and tomorrow.
